Cinnamon Popcorn

This is a quick, yummy popcorn treat.  Salty and sweet.   A spin-off of some other recipes of mine, it was fun to fiddle with.  This is a nice variation on your typical candied popcorn.
Begin by popping 8-10 cups of plain popcorn.

In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup butter with 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon [...]

Heather Bullard’s Casino Butter

One of the delights of starting a blog has been poking around a little bit to read and see what others are doing.  Like every hobby or interest, I had no idea what a big world there was out there!  I’ve enjoyed learning from many creative people.  One of the blogs I discovered (all by [...]

Pear French Toast

I simply changed the fruit in this old family favorite, and it was DELICIOUS!  Oh, so yummy!

Combine 1 cup brown sugar with 2 Tablespoons butter and 2 Tablespoons light corn syrup.

Stir together, then microwave on high for 1 minute.  Pour and spread into ungreased glass 9 x 13 inch baking pan.

Wash, peel and slice pears [...]

Peach Frozen Yogurt

This week we tried a new flavor in our homemade frozen yogurt recipe.

I love this recipe because it’s so very simple.  Three ingredients:  yogurt, sugar, half and half.  The peach flavor has been a hit with everyone.  We like to make homemade frozen yogurt because it’s a little lighter than ice cream, and we love [...]

Cucumber Punch

A friend of mine passed this recipe along to me when I was planning for my baby’s blessing celebration.  We found it to be a hit:  simple shopping list, easy preparation, and a great taste that people are just a bit surprised by.
Ingredients needed:

2 liters of Sprite or 7-Up, a can of limeade concentrate, water, [...]

Lincoln’s Corn Cakes

Our family has a special tradition every February 12.  We eat hoecakes (otherwise known as corn cakes).  Corn cakes is probably a better term, but my children love the name hoecakes.  The name is a result of these cakes being cooked over a fire on the end of a hoe.

This was one of Abraham Lincoln’s [...]

Bakerella’s Peach Crunch Cake

If you’ve never checked out Bakerella’s site, you need to.  So cute.
When she posted this recipe, I was intrigued.  It’s the peach cobbler recipe that so many people use, but with a couple of ingredients added to it.  Because I had all of them in my house, I decided to try it out.

Ingredients:

Start by pouring [...]

Lavender Shortbread Cookies

These cookies are amazing.  Before I share the recipe with you, I must beg you to give lavender a try.
If you’ve never tasted it, this is the way to start.  If you’ve tasted it but think you don’t like it, this cookie is still something to try because it will probably change your mind.  They’re [...]

Black Bean Casserole

This has been a favorite family standby for years.  It’s healthy, meatless, and inexpensive.

Chop 1/2 cup onion and one green pepper, and saute in 1 tsp oil until crisp-tender.

Rinse and drain two cans of black beans.

When the veggies are tender and the onion is translucent and just beginning to brown, add one can diced tomatoes, [...]

Almond Rice Pilaf

This rice has been a favorite for many years.  It’s simple, pretty, and has a nice texture due to the almonds.
Begin by chopping one onion and mincing a clove of garlic.

Put onion, garlic, and 2 cups long grain white rice in a pan with 2 Tb. butter.

Saute, mixing often, until rice is beginning to brown.

Pour [...]
