Spring Mantel

My vintage blue jars have found a new home on the mantel in my bedroom.

So far I really like them there.  Every time I walk into the room, the beauty of that spot makes me feel happier, lighter.  I love the way the colors all work together, the aquas, white, and cream.  The vintage frame [...]

Addition to the stash

Two new pieces of fabric arrived in the mail.

They’re from the Girl Friday line by Cosmo Cricket.  It’s fun to see so many scrapbook papers licensed for quilting fabric and this was a line I wasn’t familiar with until my awesome sister gave me a heads-up.  I think this fabric has been out for a [...]

Bird Nest Place Card Holder DIY (like Pottery Barn’s)

A month or two ago I spied these cuties in the Pottery Barn catalog:

I really liked them, but at $24 (plus shipping) for a set of 4, that was awfully steep.
Then I spotted some little 4 inch birds nests at a craft store for 99 cents each, and decided to make my own.
Here’s what you [...]

Aqua Dots Strip Quilt

I just finished a quilt that I made just to try machine binding.  It’s a quilt-as-you-go strip quilt, which means it’s quick and simple.

I’m loving the aqua, red and white color scheme with tons of polka dots.  Those three colors (and the dots) are among my favorite things right now.  I’m calling it my Aqua [...]

Rouenneries Quilt… finished!

At last, my quilt is done!

I’ve pieced many quilt tops, but rarely quilt them myself.  This one was a learning experience for me because I opted to quilt it myself.  It seemed to take forever, but it is finished at last.  It is fairly large, about 65 by 90 inches.
The top looks like this:

This quilt [...]

Wishing for a Nursery

I have given birth to 8 babies.  I’ve never had a nursery.
Oh, I’ve drooled over plenty of pictures of fabulous rooms designated solely for baby, but I’ve never had one.  Our family has always grown faster than our space, thus no nursery has ever materialized.
The truth is that babies don’t need nurseries.  They’ll never remember [...]

Ribbon Organizer

After more time spent winding ribbon than I expected it to take, I have this to show:

Much as I love ribbon, for years I’ve done a lousy job of storing those leftover pieces or strips of lovely ribbon off of packages of some sort.  Tired of sorting through this:

I went on a walk through my [...]

Vintage Blue Jars

Last week’s junk sale find…

has found a new home.  I washed the vintage blue canning jars and decided to give them some time to glisten in the family room.

I always find that during the winter I favor the look of empty containers.  The shape itself becomes art to me, and I don’t feel the need [...]

Love this table setting!

If someone from Martha Stewart would like to run on over to my house and set our table for Valentines Day, or any day for that matter, I’ll happily leave the door unlocked.

I love everything about this!  The gorgeous robin’s egg blue wrapping paper with birds used in the center, the red millinery birds on [...]

Vintage baby crib repurposed

It seems that so often when I see spaces that really appeal to me, the aspects I like most are those that are one of a kind.  It’s the vintage item being used in a new way that always makes me sigh.  I particularly like seeing vintage pieces being used creatively for storage/display.
A few weeks [...]
