Spring Shoes

I must say that one of my favorite things about little girls are their shoes.  I am totally inspired by these adorable spring shoes.  Not sure what could possibly come from it, but I’m inspired nonetheless.

I don’t buy them often, but when your daughter’s big toes have worn holes through her flats and you can see the toes sticking out, you go shopping for shoes.  Even if they’re her favorite pair and she’s not ready to part with them.  And when your baby can’t fit her feet in her shoes, you take her along too.  And the eight year old?  Hers have disappeared.  So we all went shopping.

It’s fun to see how the shoes fit each personality and style.

I love the colors, the sequins, the smart little bows on each.   My baby agrees.

The only thing better than cute little shoes is watching chubby little hands try to put them on without help.

And seeing the random poses that seem to follow whenever my camera is in hand:

Have you got something in your life that’s just so cute you can’t stand it?  This morning I’m all about their shoes.

Rubber Boots

After wearing crocs all winter long for the last few years, I’ve decided it’s time to have some winter shoes that are a bit more appropriate.  I’m not interested in dropping a bunch of money on nice boots at this point, but when I saw these awesome rubber boots on sale for $28, well, I could’t resist.

I’m a big fan of things that combine style, usefulness and thrift all in one.  I feel like these qualify.

Black and white plaid, heels and pointed toes.  Honestly, I’ve never seen boots like this before.  They make me laugh, but they’re fun to wear and I’m loving the feeling of dry feet.

And it’s funny, but my daughter, who spends a lot of time poking fun of me for buying them, wears them constantly around the house.  Hmmm.

Whimsical Vintage Wreath

Last spring I picked up this rusted metal wreath for a song.  It was the bow that got my attention, reminding me of something Dr. Seuss would have drawn, but here it was in three dimensional form.  I’ve been waiting all year to use it for Christmas.

I took it with me to a favorite shop where the owner and I played with different ideas.  I wanted to do something to dress it up, but I didn’t want to detract from the whimsical nature of the simple wreath.  We settled on some simple white and clear acrylic sprays  coming out of the bow, and I added a large (5 inch diameter) round Christmas ornament to the center of the bow.

When we held the ornament up to the wreath, we both laughed.  It was so over the top that it was perfect.  The scale was just right for the wreath as a whole, and the bling was just plain funny, especially on the simple rusted metal form.

I love the unexpectedness of the entire thing.  And as usual, I love that it’s one of a kind,  totally original.

It doesn’t hurt that we did it all in neutral colors, either.  I don’t have to take it down in January.  I think this wreath will live in my kitchen for a while, along with these lights .  It adds to a simple but sparkly feel in the room which is just what I need to get through the gray winter.

Every time I walk through the room I look at this wreath and laugh.  I love it.
