Banner Quilt

Remember this pillow ?  Well, shortly after making it I started a quilt to match.  I got it quilted and then it sat while we lived through soccer season and a million other things.

I finished it yesterday.  (Two quilts finished in two days!  I don’t think I’ve ever done that before.)

The quilt top is Kona Ash, quilted in straight lines about 3/4 inch apart.  The flags are sewn on top leaving in a soft edge applique style which will be fun once it’s washed.

I used one of my favorite Pillow & Maxfield prints from their Whimsy line for the back.  Love.

I used a solid aqua for the binding.  It frames both front and back nicely.

I’m getting pretty good at the machine binding.  I’ve definitely found what works for me.

I like how it looks with my happy yellow chevron crib skirt .

It looks pretty good blowing in the breeze as well.

Hooray for another project finished!

Water and Sky Quilt II

Six months ago I made my first Water and Sky quilt , as I call it.  I pieced a second quilt top which has hung patiently in my closet since then.  I finally got around to quilting it this week.

I quilted it the same way I did the first one, and pieced a similar back for the second one as well.

I didn’t even change the binding.  I still had a roll of the gray dots binding made so I used it again and love it.

I love the bright colors of this quilt which remind me of the ocean.  I’m also happy to have finished another unfinished project.  Two quilts from one fat quarter bundle.  Not bad!

Summertime Quilt

I’ve been working on a secret project, a wedding gift for a fabulous couple.  The wedding was Saturday and they’ve received their gift so here are pictures of my most recent quilt.

The quilt is made from Barbara Jones’ “Summertime” collection which I’ve had sitting for too long.  I added a couple of prints to the selection and am pleased with how they work together.

The top was pieced with 4 1/2 inch squares and 2 1/2 inch sashing which finishes respectively at 4 inches and 2 inches.   Simple but colorful.  And the back:

The back added a perfect touch of personality to the quilt which matches the bride and groom.  I included a house and a bike from a panel I had,*********************** I love whimsical feel of the prints, modern yet retro at the same time.

For the binding I used a stripe from the Summertime collection which finished the quilt off perfectly.  I also did the entire binding by machine and it is my best yet.  I think I’ve figured out a system that works for me.

Now it’s finished and embarking on what I’m sure will be a happy life.
