Verna and Kate Spain

Earlier today I posted pictures of the quilt top I’m putting together.  It’s made with Kate Spain’s new collection for Moda, titled Verna .

Well, about an hour later, Kate left a comment on the post, which was so kind of her, and although I have absolutely no idea how she found her way to my post, I do know that her comment led me directly to her website .

And I think I can say that I now have a new favorite designer to watch.

Let me back up.  A few weeks ago a new Crate & Barrel catalog came in the mail, and I devoured all the pictures, as usual.  One in particular was torn out of the catalog and kept for 2 reasons:  1.  I want these!  2.  Inspiration.

Did you see these too?  And do you like them like I do?

I mean, I’d like several in each color, but if I had to choose, I’d take the aqua ones.  They’re beautiful and affordable.  You can buy them individually or in sets of four.   Hello!  Can they get any cuter?

Back to Kate Spain.  You see, not only is she responsible for the gorgeous quilting fabric that I’m currently in love with, but imagine my delight when I read a few posts on her blog and discovered that SHE is the designer of those lovely Loire plates, the very plates I tore out of the catalog,  from Crate & Barrel!  She also designed these awesome melamine plates .

Wow!  I was so excited to discover that two different products which I’m so drawn to are designed by the same person.  Cute stuff!

Well, it gets even better than that.  She’s currently giving away one layer cake from the Verna collection, and some totally cute gift bags and takeout boxes for a second winner.  So hurry on over here and get in on the fun.  You have until March 20th to enter.

And thank you, thank you Kate for sharing your awesome designs!  I love them.

They’re just begging to be filled with lemonade.

I love the aqua pattern on this set of glasses.  So cheery!

I could plan an entire party around these 5 glasses.  Doesn’t that sound like fun?
I can picture a lovely outdoor luncheon, or a cozy breakfast.  Wouldn’t they be pretty filled with orange juice?

How would you use them?

Surprise!

I love it when Camille Roskelley posts on her blog .  I’m in love with the colors she uses on her blog, in love with her red polka-dotted chair, her quilts and fabrics, and in awe of what she’s accomplished with her business at her age.

A few days ago she posted this post about things that are her current favorites.  Inspired by what she had there, I went to this site and decided I wanted some bowls, too.  And I will freely admit that it’s purely a COLOR thing.  I’m not the biggest fan of melamine dishes but I’d be happy to make an exception for these colors.

The next morning I called Macy’s and discovered that the one closest to me had some in stock.  Yippee!  I put a set on hold and planned to just zip down while the older kids were in school.

Then my better judgment took hold of me.  Did I really want to take 4 little children to the mall?  Nope.  The longer I postponed, the wiser I was.  Soon I’d come to grips with the fact that I didn’t NEED the bowls, no matter what color they were, and so I never went to buy them.  (Victory for me, I thought.  I can write this down in my One Step journal under discipline!)

I mentioned to my husband that it felt good to make that choice, that I was proud of myself for saying no.

Later that night when I came home from our last carpool of the night, he hugged me and told me there was something in my office….

Wow!  What a sweet thing to do.  I ran back to the kitchen to give Mr. Wonderful a big kiss and hug before opening the box to drink in the colors.

Need another look?

As Camille said, “YUM.”  Right now they’re sitting on my kitchen counter because I like looking at them too much to put them away.  There’s nothing like color to brighten up a winter day.  Thanks, Mr. Wonderful!
