Just Married

I mentioned on Sunday that I got to help with the cutest wedding idea ever.  Parker and Karissa got married on Saturday and instead of driving away together, they rode away on their bikes.  I got to help decorate the bikes before the wedding which was really fun.

I loved that the bride and groom were so relaxed and happy on their wedding day.  No stress, or at least no visible stress.  They just seemed happy.

We decorated the handlebars of both bikes, added streamers to the bride’s wheels, and added the “Just Married” sign in the basket.  The groom’s bike got a short bow…

and a license plate.

It was such a cute idea, and perfect for this couple.

Doesn’t it just make you smile?

Birthday Cake

I wanted to wish a friend Happy Birthday last week and a lavender lemon cake sounded summery and fresh.  I used a mini bundt pan for a small cake.  Once I’d baked it, however, I wanted to make the presentation whimsical and fun.

I made a little banner to hang across the cake.  I think it did the trick.  Who wouldn’t love to get a cake with it’s own birthday banner?

Whatever you’re doing today, make it a happy day!

Summertime Quilt

I’ve been working on a secret project, a wedding gift for a fabulous couple.  The wedding was Saturday and they’ve received their gift so here are pictures of my most recent quilt.

The quilt is made from Barbara Jones’ “Summertime” collection which I’ve had sitting for too long.  I added a couple of prints to the selection and am pleased with how they work together.

The top was pieced with 4 1/2 inch squares and 2 1/2 inch sashing which finishes respectively at 4 inches and 2 inches.   Simple but colorful.  And the back:

The back added a perfect touch of personality to the quilt which matches the bride and groom.  I included a house and a bike from a panel I had,*********************** I love whimsical feel of the prints, modern yet retro at the same time.

For the binding I used a stripe from the Summertime collection which finished the quilt off perfectly.  I also did the entire binding by machine and it is my best yet.  I think I’ve figured out a system that works for me.

Now it’s finished and embarking on what I’m sure will be a happy life.
