Busy

I feel like I’m “busy as a bee” this week, trying to do so many things in so many different areas.  Trying to introduce new routines and habits to my family now that school is in session.  Trying to finish lots of little projects as well as use the harvest our gardens are offering so abundantly right now.  I’ve got a massive list of things that need attention, all of them competing for my time.  I also have a two year old that has been sad and needy with all the big kids gone.  And I have a heart that wants to pause and take it all in.  There is much to share but no time to process it or type it all out!

Does this time of year do the same to you?

Pie Tasting

I try to have a fun or healthy snack waiting for my children after school.  Last week I experimented and made three miniature pies.  I had some recipes I wanted to try so I made a mini version of each and greeted my children with tiny bowls and forks.

We had a taste testing event.  Everyone tried the pies they were interested in and I quickly (and easily) learned which were keepers and which we didn’t like.  Two out of three were favorable.

It turned out to be a fun way to keep the children in the kitchen and talking with each other.  I like days like that.

I’ve got a growing collection of recipes I’ve made this summer which I’ve got to share.  Two of these pies are on that list.  Guess I’d better get working on them, hadn’t I?!?

Kindergarten

Well, he’s off.  My little guy is at school for the first time.

He was unusually quiet and calm this morning.   It was as if he’d grown up in his sleep.  I’m curious to see if it’s a new change in general or just his response to something new.

I love this smile:

We parked at the school so I could walk him in.  He held my hand in the parking lot and that was it.  He didn’t need a kiss, a hug, or even a good-bye.  He did let me take one picture of him and then he turned and walked into the room.

I am so excited to go pick him up in a little while! I’m grateful we have half-day kindergarten.  I don’t know if I could part with this face for more than 3 hours.
